OUR KINGS brought families and community members together on May 23, 2026, for its annual Hats & Bow Tie Brunch at Sinclair on G Street in downtown San Diego. The event took place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and focused on celebrating and honoring Black boys for their growth, achievements, and leadership.

The brunch was created to give Black boys a space where they feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Throughout the event, families, mentors, educators, and community supporters gathered around tables to share food, conversation, and encouragement. The family-style setting reflected strong African American traditions centered on togetherness, culture, and community support.

Young participants were recognized for accomplishments they achieved throughout the OUR KINGS program year. Awards and recognition highlighted leadership growth, confidence building, academic success, mentorship participation, and community involvement. The event also honored the adults and organizations that continue supporting the boys throughout their journey.

The brunch included live performances, cultural celebrations, youth storytelling, and opportunities for networking and partnership within the community. Guests arrived dressed in stylish hats, bow ties, and formal clothing, helping create an atmosphere filled with pride, joy, and Black excellence.

OUR KINGS focuses on creating safe and empowering spaces for Black boys through mentorship, workshops, cultural experiences, field trips, and leadership development. The organization works to help young people understand their value, build confidence, and prepare for their futures.

The Hats & Bow Tie Brunch served as an important reminder of the power of community and support. The event gave young boys the opportunity to sit proudly beside their families and mentors while being celebrated for who they are and the goals they continue to reach.

The gathering ended with families taking photos, sharing hugs, and celebrating the success of the young KINGS honored throughout the afternoon.
