Part-time Assistant To The Managing Editor*

PART-TIME 9 to 3:30 Monday to Thursday. 9am to Noon on Fridays. Occasional weekend or evening events required. Starts at $25/hour ( salary based on performance).

This position supports the Managing Editor with a variety of writing, editing, content curation, editorial planning, social media, fact-checking, and research tasks. We are a community newspaper with a 64-year tradition serving community news from an African American perspective.

Requirements:

Proficient in typing and basic administrative tasks (50wpm minimum)
Energetic, reliable, service-oriented hard worker, self-motivated and take-charge problem solver who is able to take direction, ask questions and follow through until a task is complete
Proactively assist the Managing Editor with administrative tasks, content curation, research & fact-checking, editing and writing
Must be collaborative teamplayer with a high personal standard of excellence
Professional interest in Media / Publishing
Proficient in Microsoft Office, basic Google Suite, social media, Windows/Apple, (basic Photoshop, inDesign, and Adobe Acrobat is a plus)
Must be detail-oriented
Must have the ability to follow through, with attention to detail.
Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing using proper English.
Willing to multitask
Willing to work in a fast paced work environment

* 27 to 30hrs per week. $25/hr to Start. References and writing sample required.
