obit-9-8-160004Rogers Donnell Franklin (known as Big Roger) was born May 27, 1952 in Hodge, Louisiana. He was the eldest of six children born from the martial union to Leonard Franklin, Jr. and Hazel Ann Franklin. Rogers was a friendly and outgoing child. As a child Rogers enjoyed sports especially boxing and football. Family members affectionately referred to Rogers as the black Elvis Presley because he loved music and dancing. Rogers also loved talking about fast cars and he also drove very fast. Rogers loved his family, he took care of and protected his younger siblings. Rogers attended Chollas Elementary and 109th Street Elementary Schools, Gompers Middle School, Junior High School. He graduated from Hoover High, San Diego, CA in 1971. After high school, Rogers attended San Diego Community College where he played football. Rogers left school to work alongside his uncle in construction. Rogers was also employed by San Diego City Park and Recreation He was also a supervisor at Point Loma Sport-fishing. Rogers was preceded in death by his son: Rogers Franklin, Jr., his mother Hazel Ann Franklin; his father Leonard Franklin Jr., and his brother Joseph Franklin. God called Rogers Donnell Franklin home on August 22nd 2016. He leaves to cherish his memories, three brothers: Leonard Franklin III (Vanora), Ariel Franklin (Paramela), Christopher Franklin (Lynn), One sister: Virginia Franklin, Three daughters: Aleicia Franklin, Lachea Franklin, and Shatana Franklin. One son: Rashawd Franklin. Three granddaughters: ShaBreau Wilson, Alexia Franklin and Aleyia Franklin. Two grandsons: Rashawd Franklin, Jr. (RJ), Rhys Franklin and a host of family and friends.
