Ruth Nelson

Ruth Veneitta Derr Taylor Nelson was born a twin in Detroit, MI on January 18, 1950 to Thomas V. Derr, Sr. and Ruth Harriston Derr. Her parents, her brother Ronald Derr and sister Lorna Clark preceded in death. Her early education was in Detroit, MI. Then she moved to Urban Crest, Ohio where she graduated from Whittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. While in college she met Johnny Neal Stewart from this relationship she conceived a son, Keith Neal Stewart, Sr. of San Diego. Ruth moved to Fresno, California to be closer to her twin brother Thomas Derr, Jr. Ruth became baptized a Jehovah’s Witness on February 26, 1974. She met Brandt Taylor, a Jehovah’s Witness as well and in 1975 married him and moved to San Diego, California (Brandt preceded her in death). To this Union two children were born. A son, Ebon Taylor (who preceded her in death) and a daughter Ebony Taylor of San Diego, California. Ruth was employed by Pacific Bell for 17 years and Walmart for 20 plus years. Ruth loved to travel and did so extensively. Ruth was kind hearted, loving, giving and was always opening up her home to those in need. She also provided dormitory supplies every year to Morse High School seniors embarking to college. In 1995 Ruth Nelson married Elmus Nelson, Jr. He also preceded her in death. From that union they raised two daughters: Aynmarie Nelson of Richmond, VA and Erica Nelson of Washington, DC. Ruth leaves to celebrate her life and previous memories: Her loving children her son Keith Stewart, Sr. of San Diego, CA, a son Wesley Harris (Rebekkah), her daughter Ebony Taylor of San Diego, CA, a daughter Aynmarie Nelson of Richmond,V A, a daughter Erica Nelson of Washington, DC. 7 Grandchildren Duron Stewart, Keith Stewart, Jr., Lexi Harris, Gentry Harris, Silver Carter, Sensi Carter, Osaro Nelson and 1 Great grandchild Jayden Stewart. Her siblings: Her twin brother Thomas V. Derr of Seattle, WA, brother Willie L. Smith of Detroit, MI, sister Grace V. Stewart of Detroit, MI, a sister Lora V. Yanni (Edward) of Columbus, OH. An Aunt Joan Jones of Detroit, MI and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
