San Diego’s Annual Black Family Empowerment Day (B.F.E.D.), introducing San Diego’s official Black Arts & Culture District and Committee, is coming on September 24, 2022! The event will feature an entire day focusing on the traditions, hospitality, values, and strengths of the Black family. Black leadership will also be showcased, with featured resources to support the creative development of healthy, active, and fit youth, families, and community in mind, body, and spirit through art, culture, and a vibrant active arts community.

The special day will be held at Marie Wideman Park, at 6727 Imperial Ave, 92114 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022. It will be the first B.F.E.D., Black Family Empowerment Day, in the newly designated “Black Art and Culture District”.

Attendees will have the opportunity to support and experience a traditional drum call, dancing, and honoring of the ancestors. Event host, Galaxy Glen, will introduce community leaders and artists in a day filled with empowerment for youth, family, and community fun. There will be a water slide, arts and crafts, creative activities, superheroes, live music, singing, dancing, food, unique shopping, and the best resources for family and creative community development.

The day will also feature the “Flowers Now Ceremony” to creatively honor family matriarchs and patriarchs in a loving community-based ritual, while they are still here. The B.F.E.D. organizers are calling on all services and groups, artists, and residents who care about the wellbeing of the Black family and or just love great music, dancing, soul food, and entertainment to come and attend. Entertainers include Steel Pan Band, R&B by CEO Rhythm Section, Jabari SaxSouljah and the Black Elks, and – back by popular demand – the incredible Lenny “Fuzzy” Ranking, one of the greatest Bluesmen and entertainers of all time.

“Our goal is to make San Diego CA “Where the World Meets to Celebrate Black Art, Culture and Entertainment,” said Dajahn A. Blevins, CEO, and Founder San Diego Urban Warriors Inc.

San Diego’s Annual Black Family Empowerment Day promises to stir up the soul and enrich the entire community on Saturday, September 24. For more information, visit www.SDUW.org.
