Voice & Viewpoint just got word that empty sandbags will be made available for District 4, District 7, and District 9 residents ahead of the heavy rains expected this week through Friday, February 14th. Other council districts have empty sand bags distribution locations. See the list below.
As has been reported widely, a significant storm is expected to bring heavy rain within the next few days. According to Council member Henry Foster’s office, sandbags for District 4 residents will be available at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center::
Sandbags Available in District 4:
- Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 6401 Skyline Dr., San Diego, CA 92114
Sandbags are limited to 10 per household or business, and sand is not provided.
Other districts where empty sand bags are available include, but are not limited to:
- Council District 3 – Golden Hill Recreation Center, 2600 Golf Course Drive.
- Council District 4 – Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 6401 Skyline Drive.
- Council District 7 – Allied Gardens Recreation Center, 5155 Greenbrier Ave.
- Council District 9 – City Heights Recreation Swim and Tennis Center, 4380 Landis St.

Tips on how you can prepare:
- Clear leaves, trash, and debris from storm drains and gutters.
- Secure trash and recycling bins and place them at least 2-3 feet from the curb.
- Turn off irrigation to prevent excess runoff.
- Plan safe routes in case of flooding.
- Avoid walking, biking, or driving through floodwaters.

According to the councilmember’s office, residents can report non-emergency issues like blocked storm drains, potholes, and fallen tree branches via the Get It Done app or at sandiego.gov/get-it-done.
Residents can stay informed with updates on storm safety, road closures, and sandbag locations at sandiego.gov/storm.
Residents can also report urgent storm-related issues, such as flooding, clogged storm drains or fallen trees, to the City’s emergency dispatch at (619) 527-7500. Gas and electrical emergencies can be reported to SDG&E directly at (800) 411-7343. If it is a life-threatening emergency, residents should call 9-1-1
