Gospel recording artist Chanel, the former lead singer for Trin-i-tee 5:7 spent an incredible weekend in San Diego promoting her new CD, “Chanel: According To Trin-i- tee 5:7.” The New Orleans native was the headliner for the 25th Annual Festival of The Jazzspel at the San Diego Fair which was produced by longtime San Diego radio personality Dr. Eric J. Chambers.

She arrived in San Diego on Thursday, June 19th and just hours later made a surprise appearance at New Life Baptist Church in Spring Valley where they were having a summertime revival. The two-time Grammy nominated artist sang “Repay,” a powerful song from her new CD, which was produced by PJ Morton, a member of Maroon 5.

Pastor Troy P. Owens was beaming with joy as the congregation listened with lifted hands as Chanel ministered. The audience was so inspired by the song, many began to buy her CD before the service was over. “What an honor it is for us to have Chanel here at New Life. This is a blessing,” said Rev. Owens.
On Friday, June 20th, Chanel headlined the Jazzspel Jubilee concert at Nu Way Christian Ministries. The event celebrated the 20th anniversary of Dr. Chambersʼ Jazzspel radio show which began on Smooth Jazz 98.1 KIFM in 1994 and is now syndicated on 10 stations across the nation and in Barbados.

She co-headlined with Kingdom Business, an eclectic gospel band from Riverside, CA. San Diegoʼs Lanee Battle, Tinika Wyatt and Rev. Dr. Steve Cooper also performed on the jubilee program.

After signing autographs and posing for pictures, Chanel left the jubilee and headed over to St. Stephens COGIC where she was a special guest of Bishop George D. McKinney, Jr. They were having their 2nd Jurisdictionʼs convocation when she also blessed that audience with her latest single, “Repay.”

Then on Saturday, June 21st, Chanelʼs trip culminated with her debut on the Plaza Stage at the San Diego Fair where Dr. Chambers commemorated his 25th anniversary of concerts there. He began producing gospel events there back in 1989. “With this being a milestone year, I thought Iʼd bring my homegirl from New Orleans to help me celebrate,” said Chambers. “She was amazing all weekend!”

Chanel led the way at the fair and also performed with Kingdom Business, a group she came to love the previous night at Nu Way. After a career of being on major record labels, she has embarked upon a new business journey with Obsidian Records, her own label. “Finally, I have the opportunity to do the music Iʼve always wanted to do without someone telling me I canʼt,” she said with a smile. “This is the real Chanel.”

Overall, Chanel had a fantastic weekend in San Diego sharing her music and ministry with the people of the region. Meanwhile, the local artists were pleased to share the stage with her during her visit.
