The Young and Prosperous Foundation continues to build momentum with its flagship initiative, The Young Excellence Club, a leadership and empowerment program aimed at shaping young men through the principles of brotherhood, scholarship and community service.
Led by Dr. Raul Randle and Cecil Shelton, the program focuses on mentorship, academic achievement and civic engagement, providing participants with tools to grow into responsible leaders. Organizers say the club is not only about personal development, but also about creating a lasting impact in the communities its members serve.
That mission was on full display April 25, 2026, during the organization’s 2nd Annual Mother’s Day Tea, themed “The Heart of the Home.” The event, held at the United Domestic Workers hall, brought together community members to celebrate and honor 13 mothers and caregivers whose contributions have made a meaningful difference.
“This year’s theme celebrates women who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of their families and communities,” Hope Mitchell said.
Mitchell added that the honorees represent a wide range of accomplishments and serve as examples of perseverance and leadership.
“Their life accomplishments are remarkable,” she said. “We proudly celebrate those who exemplify determination, perseverance, leadership and success.”
The 2026 honorees included Deborah Robertson, Dr. Antwanisha Williamson, Dr. LaShae Sharp-Collins, Ellen Nash, Gwen Sevier, Kendria Stevenson, Kim Barnes, Mariah Jameson, Martha Abraham, Pamela Gray Payton, Shana Moore, Tamara Allen-Muhammad and Tracey Jenkins-Martin.
Family members, friends and supporters filled the venue, creating an atmosphere of appreciation and reflection. Attendees shared stories, offered tributes and recognized the everyday sacrifices made by the women being honored.
Organizers said the annual tea is more than a celebration. It is an extension of The Young Excellence Club’s commitment to service, reinforcing the importance of honoring those who serve as pillars within the community.
As the foundation looks ahead, leaders say they plan to expand programming and outreach, continuing to invest in youth while uplifting community role models.
