Louise Mothershed

October 25, 1949 – March 2, 2017

LOUISE MOTHERSHED was born on October 25, 1949 in Clayton, Alabama. She was a twin and the third of eight children born to loving parents, Lang and Melnee Johnson Sr.  In 1956, her mother moved the family to San Diego, CA. She received her formal education through the San Diego Unified School District, graduating from San Diego High School. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Good Faith Baptist Church.  In 1964, she, along with her family, moved their membership to New Corinthian Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. LaSalle Jones. There, she sang in the choir and worked in the youth department. At the age of eighteen, she united with Missionary Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder O.B. Booker, where she sang in the choir.  In 1970, she moved her membership to Greater Jackson Memorial Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop J.A. Blake, Sr., where she served as an active member for fifteen years. It was also during this time that she met and married Booker T. Bowen Jr.; two children were born to their union born.

In 1985, Louise met and married Lawrence W. Mothershed Sr. In 1987, she united with Faith Chapel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Roy Dixon, where she participated in the choir, Vacation Bible School, Deaconess Board, Mother’s Board and the Women’s Department.  She also served as President of the Financial Board of the Southern California Fourth Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction Women’s Department. In 2008, she served until her passing as Vice President of Seeking for the Future Corporation and Women of Vision.   During 2013, several entities were added to these organizations such as; the Youth Explosion, Inc., The Men & Women of Vision Bible College and The Men of Vision. It was also during 2013, that she became the President of the Women Ministry at Christian Fellowship Congregational Church.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence W. Mothershed Sr.; her brothers, twin Lang Johnson Jr., Rickey Johnson Sr. and Tyrone Johnson.

On Thursday, March 2, 2017, Louise Mothershed was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. She leaves to celebrate her life: her daughter, Sheryl Bowen (Darius Davis Sr.); her son, Booker T. Bowen III and his wife Stacy; two sisters, Annie E. Jackson of Atlanta, GA and Betty D. Johnson of Surprise, AZ; two brothers, Willie L. Johnson of San Diego CA. and Michael Harris of  Folsom, CA., two sisters-in law, Terrie Harris of Folsom, CA. and Sharon Johnson of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren, Jamal D. Ellis, Sherry J. Ellis, Ebony Bowen and Darius Davis II all of San Diego, CA., Antwaun Brown of Henderson, NV. and Paris Brown of Mission Viejo, CA; one great-granddaughter, Sophya Meals of San Diego, CA; a very special cousin, Willie P Clayton of San Diego, CA and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Services were held Monday, March 13, 2017 at City of Hope International Church; Interment at Greenwood Memorial Park. Final arrangements were entrusted to Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary.
