CHESTER WHEELER March 10, 1920-July 23, 2017

CHESTER WHEELER, affectionately known as “Unc”, of San Diego, California, transitioned to eternal life on Sunday, July 23, 2017 with his loving children and niece by his side.

Chester was born to the late Marshall Wheeler and Roberta P. Ferguson Wheeler on March 10, 1920 in McNeal, Arkansas. He graduated from Union Parrish High School and went on to serve in the United States Army.

Chester married Rubye Caldwell and to that union was born twins, Leonard and Leon and youngest son, Cornell.

In April of 1953, Chester relocated his family from Louisiana to Los Angeles, California, where he transitioned out of the United States Army and began his career with Firestone Tire & Rubber from which he would eventually retire.

After retirement, he relocated to San Diego, California, where he mastered the art of fishing and cultivating his winning reputation in Bingo.

Chester was a devoted father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He considered his family one of his greatest accomplishments of all. In a life that symbolizes the triumph of the human spirit, Chester swill be missed for his laughter, counseling, zest for life and thoughtfulness. His memory will live on in the hearts and minds of the multitude of people that loved his humble and caring personality. We will celebrate his life through emulation of his strength and courage and will never forget the imprint he left on this world.

Chester was preceded in death by his son, Leon Wheeler; siblings, Katie Lee, Marshall, Artris, Willie Mae, Walter, Ruth, Ruben, Prentiss and former spouse, Rubye  Caldwell wheeler.

Chester is survived by his children, Leonard Wheeler, (Elizabeth) and Cornell Wheeler; beloved niece, Rubye Ford; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was the center of his family and was adored by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lifetime friends.
