Effie K. Tripp-Douglas
February 7, 1917 – January 25, 2017
MRS. EFFIE K. TRIPP-DOUGLAS was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on February 7, 1917. She was the eldest of six children born to Arthur and Carrie Kayton. She received her formal education in Texarkana, where she also accepted Christ as her personal Savior. During the early 1940s, Effie married Rufus White in Texarkana, Arkansas and the two moved to Texarkana, Texas. Shortly afterwards, they relocated to San Diego, California, where they joined Bethel Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Dr. Charles H. Hampton. She served in several ministries including; Missions Society, Usher Board and Deaconess Board No. 1. She also gave diligently to Save the Children and The World Jewish Relief Foundation. Effie was employed as a clerk for the San Diego County Hospital, where she made many long-lasting friendships, ultimately retiring after numerous years of service. Effie later met James Tripp. They were united in marriage in April of 1954. From their union, Effie was blessed with four stepchildren. They were happily married until his premature death in 1967. While working at the San Diego County Hospital, she decided to further education by attending San Diego City College. Effie later met Samuel D. Douglas. They were united in marriage in October of 1976. From this union, she gained three stepchildren. Samuel preceded her in death. Effie loved her church family. She was a devoted sister, friend and confidante. She believed in helping others. She also believed that she was never better than anyone was and no one was ever better than she. Her love for Christ sustained her for 99 years. She will greatly be missed by all who had a personal relationship with her. She was further preceded in death by both of her parents; her brothers, Arthur Kayton Jr., Jake Kayton, Garland Kayton and Curtis Kayton; stepchildren, James “Johnny” Tripp and Janice Douglas. On Wednesday, January 25, 2017, Mrs. Effie K. Tripp-Douglas became a part of God’s promise to go directly into heaven. “Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord” II Corinthians 5:8 NIV. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Cleo Smith of Rancho Bernardo, California; her stepchildren, Francis Wilson, Lois J. Tripp, Sonja Braswell, Edgar “Joe” Barrington and Dion Douglas and a host of other relatives and friends and Church Family.
