Obits 3-3-160002Reginald Quillar came into this world on the 29th day of March, 1960. Born to parents Freddie Ree Cooper and Lee Virt Quillar. He was born and raised in San Diego and was known by many. Reggie attended Sherman Elementary. Memorial Junior High and graduated from San Diego High School in 1977. Reggie was a caregiver to his grandparents and maintained his mother’s household, assisting her with her daily routines. We each have our own fond memories of Reggie. We cannot forget his very audible humming that announced his arrival and departures. Now he’ll be humming all day with the angels. Reggie was his mother’s 6th child, yet he always felt he was the eldest and would often say to his siblings, “I am grown” acting like he was serious, we just laughed at him. We’re going to miss those phrases and more. His employment history includes Aero Food Mart. ACE Parking and The Port of San Diego. He was a member of the usher board at Calvary Baptist Church; thereafter he attended St. Stephens Cathedral before becoming an active member of the Rock Church. He cared for the homeless, often preparing large meals for them in his mother’s kitchen and bringing them hot coffee on cold nights. He also collected clothing and blankets to keep the homeless warm. He would spend his paychecks on personal items and other necessities for those in need. He was always opening his wallet for others before taking care of himself. He passed along scriptures and ministered to the homeless and to his community. Seeing him Downtown with his bible open, wearing his glasses and ministering, is another fond memory. He was the most kind hearted, friendliest person one would ever hope to meet. Reginald Quillar, so loved by so, so many. Reggie was preceded in death by his sister Carolyn Lorraine Quillar. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Freddie Ree Cooper, siblings Charles Gray, Larry Quillar, Lee Virt Quillar, Jr., Gary Quillar, Wanda Ivory. Eric Calloway and an extended host of family and friends.
