The San Diego Chargers will host the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Oct. 1 at Qualcomm Stadium with kickoff set for1:25 p.m. PST. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Chargers will don pink equipment and use game balls with pink ribbon decals and pink kicking tees. On-field pink ribbon stencils and A Crucial Catch wall banners will be displayed as well. Breast Cancer Awareness brandanas, presented by UC San Diego Health, will be passed out to all fans entering the stadium.
The Chargers will recognize 35 breast cancer survivors on the field pre-game with the American Cancer Society. Another 90 members of the ZTA’s will be in their pink to assist with the flag, big pink ribbon and pink stars as part of the National Anthem and the ZTA’s will also be passing out pink ribbons and education cards at the gates. Susie Spanos, wife of Chargers team president Dean Spanos, will recognize La Maestra for their assistance with the team’s mammogram events and as the recipient of the NFL’s CHANGE Grant for $50,000 for the San Diego region.
United States Marine Corps Sergeant Major Michael Pritchard will be honored at the Salute to Service Moment, presented by USAA. Sergeant Pritchard has served for more than 24 years where he currently serves as the Marine Aircraft Group 39 Sergeant Major. He has been deployed 10 times, including deployments to Iraq, Thailand, Korea, Philippines, Guam and Indonesia. He has received numerous awards and achievements, including multiple Meritorious Service medals, Navy Commendation medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer medal and Red Cross Instructor of Year for Japan.
Fans in attendance will enjoy pregame and halftime entertainment by the San Diego State University Marching Aztecs under the direction of Bryan Ransom.
The National Anthem will be performed by San Diego native Katriz Trinidad, a Season 7 Voice contestant, while members of ZTA help present the flag and pink ribbon stencils to support Breast Cancer Awareness month.
