High Schools, Junior Colleges and Universities including SDSU, USC, BYU, UNLV and the University of Oregon competed at Montezuma for the 36th annual Aztec Track & Field Invitational.

The University of Oregon women’s team outshined the competition at this year’s invitational, winning the 4×100 relay featuring Phyllis Francis, Marybeth Sant, Jenna Prandini, and Jasmine Todd. The fearsome foursome posted the fastest time in the world this season after crossing the finish line first with a blazing 43.74.

Using a different quartet of Lady Ducks, Oregon was also victorious in the 4X400 in 3:39.68.
Lady Aztec Jasmine Burrell finished second in the shot put (52-06.50) to Oregon’s Brittany Mann’s 53-07.50.

“Oregon’s girls’ team is currently ranked number two in the nation,” said Aztec’s assistant coach Robert Dean. Heptathlon competitor Brittany Bozman of SDSU talked about her goals for this season.

“I want to jump 21-4, in the long jump, score 5,600 points in the heptathlon, finish in top 3 in the long jump and top 8 in the heptathlon at this year’s nationals, and be an All -American. This is my first meet of the season. My practices have been going good and I don’t have any nagging injuries so we will see,” the senior said.

The times were fast and the competition was fierce at the Aztec Track & Field Invitational # 36.
“This meet has been tabbed as second only to Mt Sac on the west coast in terms of significances. We have had the top 10-15 schools here in the last three years and Coach Sheila Burrell does a awesome job putting this together every year.”
