On Saturday September 15th, one hundred-plus family members joined together to celebrate the first annual multi-family “We Family” reunion. The families that joined together were the Wright family, the Jones family, the Norris family, the Watkins family, the Williams family, the Jeffrey family, and the Henry family. All families are related through birth, marriage and childhood friends.
The day was filled with hugs, kisses and many surprises of family members who did not know they were related. A great variety of sweet soul music filled the air by one of San Diego’s finest DJ’s (Preacher Man, Larry Thompson). The idea was initiated by one of the patriarchs of the family, Mike Norris, who shared the idea with Joann Thompson, Genevieve Jones-Wright, and Wally Henry, who all agreed to bring the families together to reconnect. Family members responded to a ‘bring your own potluck’ with food and drinks, and there was plenty of good food and desserts. The family gives a big shout out to family member, Wally Henry, Lincoln High alumni and former NFL player for the Philadelphia Eagles, and his fiance, Celeste Robinson, for all the tremendous work he put in to help organize and make this first annual “We Family” reunion a successful event. On a six-week short notice, the reunion turned out to be a good start to a continuation of many more family gathering to come.
