Star Parker is a a syndicated columnist, Republican politician, activist, and author. Parker began her advocacy of conservative social and political causes after graduating from Woodbury University with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Business and after spending several years dependent on government assistance.
She founded the Coalition on Urban Renewal and Education (CURE) in 1995. The organization is a 501c3 think tank that takes an in-depth look at how market based public policy can help fight poverty.
Parker’s experiences with poverty have given her a unique perspective as a social policy consultant and allows her to bring a distinct energy to policy discussions regarding traditional economic perspectives, limited government, and private ownership.
Parker shares her perspective by regularly testifying before Congress and also by appearing on radio and television. In addition, she has written three books including “Pimps, Whores and Welfare Brats: From Welfare Cheat to Conservative Messenger,” “Uncle Sam’s Plantation: How Big Government Enslaves America’s Poor and What We Can Do About It,” and “White Ghetto: How Middle Class America Reflects Inner City Decay.”
Parker has also given more than 180 lectures at colleges and universities across the country, served on multiple advisory boards, spoken at the 1996 Republican National Convention, and helped produce an affirmative action documentary with BBC. She currently appears as a regular commentator on CNN, TBN, CNBC, CBN, and Fox News and is a syndicated columnist for Scripps News Service.
