Dear Editor:

What kind of people would destroy their own monuments? We jail youth who tag churches, commercial buildings, fences. What sentence must we give to “Leaders” who actually give consent for one of the few buildings with public art representing our history to actually be erased? Why would anyone erase the art that was a monument to Harriet Tubman and Caesar Chavez? What money and few jobs would be worth such sacrilege? Did those whose decisions it was to erase all that art know the history of it? Who were the artists? Are we selling Harriet Tubman and Caesar Chavez for pieces of silver and part-time jobs? Did they know that our community youth on Saturdays helped with the painting of the mural at the back of the building? Can one imagine erasing the art at Chicano Park? Was there a community meeting to weigh the repercussions of such an important culture-changing Act? George Stevens and Charles Lewis must certainly be rolling over in their graves. This is an alarming wake-up call.

WARNING!!! SACRED PLACES BEWARE!!! OUR LEADERS ARE CULTURALLY BANKRUPT!

THE ERASURE OF A PEOPLE’S ART BEGINS THE ERASURE OF A PEOPLE! SHAME ON OUR

MINDLESS LEADERS!
